6 DIY Gift Baskets for the Holidays

DIY Gift BasketsGift-giving is one of my favorite ways to show love and appreciation to those special to our family. Thankfully, I got some of my mom’s “creative gene.” I not only enjoy buying gifts but also creating DIY gifts that are one-of-a-kind! I like to be intentional about involving my 3-year-old daughter in planning, buying, and gifting items. I want her to feel and know the joy of giving. Additionally, I want to teach her to have a thankful heart! I think gifting (along with many other things) is a great way to teach that the joy of giving can easily outweigh the excitement of receiving.

I know gifts are not everyone’s love language and gift-giving can take a lot of brainpower. So, I have compiled a list of budget friendly ideas for the different types of people in your lives. Most (if not all) of the contents of each of these baskets can be found at the dollar store! Read to the end for a freebie.

1. Movie Lover Basket

The Movie Lover Basket can be a for a couple, family, or individual who loves to watch movies. Basket content ideas could include candy, popcorn, soft drinks, fuzzy socks, blanket, and a Netflix or movie theater gift card.

2. Spa Basket

The Spa Basket can be for anyone who needs a solitary moment of rest and relaxation (like moms). Basket content ideas include nail polish, nail polish remover, face mask, face wash, robe, fuzzy socks, loofah, lotion, body wash, lip balm, lip scrub, body scrub, bath salt, oils, slippers, candle, room spray, stainless steel wine glass, pumice stone, nail clippers, or nail brush. If you’d like to splurge a bit, you can even add in a gift card to one of Birmingham’s great spas.

3. Family Game Night Basket

The Family Game Night Basket is perfect for families of all sizes. Games should be geared toward the age of the children in the family and can encourage quality time together.  Basket content ideas could include candy, Uno, Scrabble, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Dominos, Monopoly, Clue, Twister, Rubik’s Cube, Jenga, tic-tac-toe, playing cards, scorecards or notebook, popcorn, or a gift card to a local arcade. Lots of great board and cards can be found at our local toy stores!

4. Chef Basket

The Chef Basket is for the ones in your life who love to cook and be in the kitchen. This can easily be adapted to a Baker’s Basket, too. Basket content ideas could include oven mitts, apron, dish towel, cooking utensils like a spatula and ladle, cheese board or cutting board, spices, ingredients to their favorite recipe (pizza, pasta, and cookies are easy ones!), or dish soap. You could stop by a local book store to grab a new cookbook, too!

5. Craft Lover Basket

The Craft Lover Baskets are for the creative people in your life who enjoy things like sewing and painting, or are able to easily pick up craft tools and think outside the box. Basket content ideas could include scissors, ribbon, fabric or fabric scraps, scrapbook paper, craft glue, paint, paintbrushes, iron on patches, paint pens, or permanent markers.

6. Gardener Basket

Know someone who has a green thumb? A Gardening Basket might be the perfect gift for them! Basket content ideas include gardening gloves, hand salve, trowel and cultivator, pruning shears, garden kneeler, seed packets, sunscreen, a new gardening book, watering can, or plant label stakes.

Whether you are gifting for Christmas, Hanukkah, or another special occasion, I hope these ideas can help simplify your life and take the guesswork out of planning. Of course, these are only a few examples of gift baskets. There are so many other ideas you can come up with. The sky is the limit!
