Since 2011, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra has brought live orchestral music outdoors to Railroad Park, welcoming over 130,000 people to this celebrated annual tradition. Spread out a blanket, bring the family, and enjoy three unforgettable evenings of world-class classical music under the open sky — no ticket required.

Friday, May 22 — Classics at Sunset

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra opens its summer season under the stars at Railroad Park with a program built for a warm evening outdoors. Verdi’s electrifying Nabucco Overture sets the stage, followed by Chabrier’s charming Habanera and the irresistible melodies of Bizet’s Carmen Suite — music that feels as alive in the open air as it does in a concert hall. After intermission, Grieg’s colorful Symphonic Dances bring the night to a close with sweeping Nordic drama and folk-inspired energy.

Saturday, May 23 — A Night of Masterworks

Saturday’s program is a perfect introduction to the symphonic canon. Conducted by Daniel Cho, the evening opens with Rossini’s sparkling Overture to L’italiana in Algeri, full of wit and irresistible energy. Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet follows — one of the most passionate and dramatic works in all of classical music. The night closes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, a work brimming with the confidence and creativity of a composer about to change music forever. It’s a great night out in Birmingham for first-timers and longtime symphony fans alike.

Sunday, May 24 — A Patriotic Spectacular

Sunday is a full-scale celebration of American spirit, military service, and beloved music from film and beyond. Conducted by Chris Confessore, the evening opens with the Star Spangled Banner and a stirring U.S. Armed Forces Medley, honoring the men and women who serve. Sousa marches, John Williams’ iconic themes, the sweeping score of Band of Brothers, and the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean keep the energy soaring. There’s even a moment of pure movie magic with I See the Light from Disney’s Tangled and a full tribute to John Williams. The night closes — as it should — with The Stars and Stripes Forever.
