The new year is here, bringing with it a fresh wave of motivation and expectation. If losing weight in Birmingham is something you have in mind for 2024, you may feel overwhelmed by all the different options out there or unsure of how to get started. We’re happy to share about a local, medically guided weight loss program that can walk you step-by-step through the process. Here’s everything you need to know about Southern Immediate Care‘s personalized program and how it can help you set and reach your goals.
Why choose Southern Immediate Care?
There are a LOT of programs out there designed to help people reach their weight-loss goals. What sets Southern Immediate Care apart? Several things! First off, their program is tailored to each individual’s medical history, goals, and challenges. You won’t get a one-size-fits-all approach. In addition, they provide in-person support. The program includes an initial consult and follow up appointments where you meet one-one-one with a medical practitioner. Of course, they are just a phone call away if you need them in between appointments. They know education and support are vital to successful weight loss and want to be your support system. Finally, their program offers a multi-faceted approach that combines nutrition and exercise coaching with medication (if eligible).
Who qualifies for the program?
Anyone with a BMI of 30 or higher or anyone with a BMI of 27 and a weight related co-morbid condition may participate.
What does the program include?
- Initial Consultation
The program starts with an initial consultation with a practitioner to determine your overall health, goals, and establish a safe and effective program for weight loss. The consult includes blood work, weight and BMI (body mass index) analysis, and a check of your vitals (blood pressure and pulse). If necessary, they will consult your primary care provider to obtain medical records or lab results. Next, they will help you determine your weight loss goal and provide nutrition and exercise counseling to help you reach your goal. If you are eligible, they can also prescribe medication.
- Follow Up Appointments
Every 30 days, you will have an appointment to check in with the physician. Follow up appointments include weight and BMI analysis, a check of your vitals, nutrition and exercise counseling, and a refill of your prescription if applicable.
What are my options for medication?
If you are eligible, medications used for weight loss include Zepbound and Wegovy. For those with Type 2 Diabetes, other options include Mounjaro and Ozempic. Prior authorizations are required for every medication and will be submitted by the provider upon the receipt of lab results.
What does the program cost?
Southern Immediate Care is happy to file your visits with your insurance company. If the visit is not covered, the cost of the initial consult is $105 and follow-up appointments are $70. Lab work is coded and filed with your insurance company. You may receive a bill from LabCorp based on your insurance coverage. While prescription insurance coverage is not required to participate in the program, you will need to check with your insurance company to inquire about coverage for medications. Manufacturer coupons are available online to help reduce the cost of medication, whether your insurance covers it or not.
