One of my fondest memories from growing up is picking apples from my grandparents’ orchard. Nothing compares to eating an apple literally three seconds after picking it from the tree! While none of the farms near here are guaranteed to offer u-pick fruit, you won’t find anything fresher in a grocery store! Here’s your guide to apple orchards in the Birmingham area, with a couple of other Alabama farms that typically let you pick your own apples.

Mountain View Orchards is located in Jemison, about 45 minutes south of Birmingham. As of this blog post, Mountain View Orchards typically offers five varieties of apples in addition to peaches and other products. They are open from during the day from Tuesday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Check out their Facebook page! Per their Facebook page, Mountain View Orchards will not be open for the 2025 apple season.
Allman Farms & Orchards

Allman Farms & Orchards is located in Oneonta, about 45 minutes northeast of Birmingham. This is a multi-generational farm that offers many other products aside from apples. They are open Wednesday though Saturday. They also have an online store! Their Facebook page is here.
Steele Orchard

Steele Orchard is located in Cullman, about 45 minutes north of Birmingham. In addition to multiple varieties of apples, they have several other kinds of produce and various other products in their store. They open Monday through Saturday, and on Sunday afternoons. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook page. Some years they do offer u-pick apples, so be sure to call ahead if you’d like to get in on the fun!
North Alabama U-Pick Orchards
Scott’s Orchard
If you’re willing to make the drive to the Tennessee state line, don’t miss Scott’s Orchard in Hazel Green, Alabama. You can experience all the festive fun here, with apple-picking (on Thursday-Sunday only), apple cider, apple pie, apple cider donuts, and even pre-made apple pie filling! If you are an apple fan, this is well worth the drive. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates regarding produce and bakery offerings, as they grow and sell other produce.
Isom Orchard
This Athens-area farm offers a variety of produce, and sdoes sometime let you pick your own fruit! (Call ahead to make sure that’s an option before visiting, though.) If you visit this orchard, you have to try the apple slushie; it is probably their most popular treat. Their available produce, as well as any u-pick fruit, are all listed on their Facebook page. They also have flower fields, so you’ll get a beautiful, here, for sure!

Caramel Apple Pie from The Pioneer Woman
Take your basic apple pie up a notch by adding caramel! Trust me, it’s delightful; plus, it makes the whole dish feel more fall-ish. If you’re intimidated by homemade pie crust, don’t be! You just need a good rolling pin, preferably a wooden one like this option, and it’ll be a piece of cake (or pie, in this scenario)!
Apple and Cheddar Crisp Salad from Smitten Kitchen
If you need something lighter after the above recipe, you cannot go wrong with a savory salad, complete with a simple, homemade dressing and seasonal ingredients. If you’ve never made your own dressing before, don’t be intimidated. Just grab a watertight container and go for it! It’s so much better than store-bought!!
