We are thrilled to partner with Luna Sleep Center! This is sponsored content.

Every parent knows what it’s like to be awakened in the night by a child who can’t sleep. While a restless night here or there happens, what do we do if it becomes a regular occurrence? When your child regularly struggles to sleep, there may be an issue that needs some attention.

Birmingham Mom Collective recently had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Aydinoz of Luna Sleep Centers to better understand why good sleep is important and how they can help kids with sleep issues. Luna Sleep Centers is conveniently located on Cahaba Park Circle near Highway 280 and works with children ages two to eighteen, as well as adults. Let’s dive in to learn more!

What Issues does Luna Sleep Centers Treat?

Sleep issues typically depend on age. Luna Sleep Centers often works with younger children to treat snoring and breathing issues; they primarily work with teenagers on initiating and maintaining sleep.

How are These Issues Treated?

The first step in treating a child with snoring or breathing issues is to set up a consult with Dr. Aydinoz. At this initial appointment he will determine the next best step for your child. Many children will be directed to return to the clinic soon for a sleep study. Luna Sleep Centers offers this at their facility, which is equipped with peaceful sleeping rooms that even include a recliner for the child’s parent, as well as a private restroom. They use both camera and audio recordings to better understand your child’s sleep issues. Results are typically available within two to three days. Follow up with Dr. Aydinoz is recommended to go over your results face to face and for him to be able to create a treatment plan with the family. Depending on the results, they may connect a patient with one of the pediatric ENT doctors in town to have a T&A procedure (tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy). Milder cases may only require a nasal steroid or other medication. When it comes to treating insomnia, they will work with the patient to teach them about practicing good “sleep hygiene” and adapting habits that can help them sleep better, such as going to bed at the same time each night.

Consequences for Not Treating Sleep Issues

Children can experience several consequences if sleep issues go untreated. These may include irritability, difficulty focusing, poor performance in school, memory issues, or neurological issues. Thankfully, these can all be resolved when you seek treatment at Luna Sleep Centers!

Do I Need a Referral?

A referral from your pediatrician or family practitioner is helpful, but it is not required. Luna Sleep Centers is happy to accept self-referrals, too!
