For many parents in our community, Halloween can be a bit daunting. We want to take our children to different activities, like pumpkin patches or apple orchards, but sometimes we are unable to due to the potential sensory overload or lack of ADA accomodations. Luckily, there are some sensory-friendly Halloween events in Birmingham coming up that are perfect for our special little ones to attend!

1. Pumpkin Junction at Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum

This event will be on October 11th, 12th, 18th, and 19th. Let members of their team know what your special needs are, and they will do everything they can to make sure the event is fun and relaxing for everyone. They have pumpkin picking, crafts, inflatables, food vendors, hayrides, and more!

2. Good to Be Bad

The Hoover Public Library’s annual Halloween celebration is at 6:30 p.m. on October 17th this year, but a sensory friendly preview is available before the event beginning at 6:00 p.m. You can call 205.444.7830 to register.

3. Hoots and Howls 2025 at the Birmingham Zoo

For many children, my son included, the dark can be scary. That is why I love that the Birmingham Zoo offers this event during the daytime. It will be held October 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th, and 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be candy stations, magic shows, interactive animal shows, and more!

4. Cahaba Brewing Company Franks N Steins benefiting Libby’s Friends

This annual fundraiser, held at Cahaba Brewing Company, will be on October 25th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Libby’s friends is a nonprofit organization that helps families with special needs children. There will be food, live music, games and more!
