Birmingham

Well, Birmingham, it’s been 4 years and I haven’t quite found my place. One thing I have learned throughout my time here is that building community is important. I’m a transplant to Birmingham by way of Louisville, Kentucky. Although my husband and I never intended to make Birmingham home, here we are 4 years later looking to settle in. I still don’t know how I feel about it, but in the meantime, I’ll be intentional about learning more about the Magic City and its people.

While I still am unsure of what life here will look like. I do know that I have grown very fond of lemon pepper wings fried hard. I’m not an all-flats girl, but make sure you give me the peach lemonade and some cajun fries, no ranch. I will never get tired of the sounds of the HBCU bands, and the love I get from other sorors and members of the divine nine makes my heart skip a beat. (If you know you know.)

Until I figure out what Birmingham is all about, I’ll continue to be the Haitian-American millennial mom lost in the sauce in the South.

Moms

I am more than a mom. I’d like to start there. I’ve been working on rediscovering myself outside of motherhood. It seems many of us get lost and the GPS of life keeps us in Motherhood, USA. So, before I get into the stuff we are really here to talk about, I’ll practice what I’ve learned in therapy. I am a self-published author and a serial entrepreneur. I am a fitness fanatic who will use the excuse “I am going to the gym,” to eat half a pizza pie. Also, I love to thrift and craft, and most of all I love to travel!

Now, onto what you’re here for. I am a mom to three beautiful kiddos ages four, three, and three-months. I have been married for four years to a man I met on Tinder. Yes, we are a Tinder success story! Fun Fact, they sent us coffee cups, shirts, and a onesie to celebrate the birth of our first child. I’m still waiting to be in a Tinder commercial.

I am a corporate trainer in the Learning and Development space by day. Those are just fancy words to say that I train people on how to do their jobs. I own two companies. The first is a publishing company where I offer copywriting services to brands and businesses. I also run a virtual call center; so, of course, work life balance doesn’t really exist. But, I thoroughly enjoy what I do and believe that when you love what you do you aren’t really working.

Blog

Birmingham Mom Collective (BMC) and their events calendar are the resources I’ve clung to to make no-screentime Saturdays possible. I look forward to becoming a part of this amazing group of moms, sharing my unique way of life, and thinking with them and the Birmingham mom community. It’s really exciting to be a contributing writer for an organization that I’ve found to be extremely helpful during my family’s time here. As a contributing writer for BMC, I plan to be authentic and represent the transplanted moms who haven’t figured Birmingham out just yet.
