For years before my children were born, my husband and I were proud parents of two adorable fur babies. Our pups are amazingly patient big sisters to our daughter and son, and we love including them in our family time. South Birmingham
1. Green Springs Dog Park (1901 Greensprings Avenue South, Birmingham)
The gated Green Springs Dog Park at George Ward Park is a great place for your pup to run and play. Your dog will love mastering the park’s obstacle course. Don’t forget your frisbees and tennis balls. You can play with your dog, but the rest of the family can also play a game of disc golf or stop by the tennis courts at George Wald Park while you are there.
West Birmingham
2. Remy’s Dog Park (2011 Frankfurt Drive, Birmingham)
Remy’s Dog Park is huge, covering 6 acres at Red Mountain Park. It was featured by Southern Living as one of the “10 Great Southern Dog Parks.” There are separate play spaces for big dogs and tiny pups. After your dog runs off a little energy, take the whole family on a hike or bike ride through Red Mountain Park. Don’t miss climbing one of the three enchanting treehouses, taking in views at a scenic overlook, or walking down the sensory trail.
East Birmingham
3. Cahaba Beach Dog Park (3555 Cahaba Beach Road, Birmingham)
Cahaba Beach Dog Park is a membership-only fenced in recreation area for dogs that covers 3 acres. You and your dog can explore the area and find trails, a meadow where you can play frisbee, a waterfall, and a shallow pool. There is a designated area for smaller dogs to enjoy. There are several membership options ranging from $20 for one month, up to $180 for the year. Members also have access to doggy day care, boarding, and grooming services.
Downtown Birmingham
4. CityWalk Barkery (815 24th Street North, Birmingham)
The CityWalk Barkery is a membership-only 50,000 square foot off-leash dog park. There are areas for both large and small dogs that include water features, and equipment that can be used for play or training. Nearby is the Bier Garten which features a small performance stage, ping pong, bocce ball courts, swings, and more. Annual memberships cost $95, and day passes cost $20.
5. Good Dog Park and Bar (101 23rd Street South, Birmingham)
Good Dog Park and Bar is a membership-only turfed playground for dogs and people. The tunnels, pools, play structures, and free birthday parties are a hit with dogs, while the bar with discounted drinks for their human companions makes this the ultimate spot to chill with your pet. Annual memberships cost $425, monthly memberships cost $55, and day passes cost $12. Doggy daycare is also available to members.
Hoover
6. Loch Haven Dog Park (3469 Loch Haven Drive, Hoover)
Loch Haven Dog Park is an off leash, fenced-in dog park that features an obstacle course for your furry friend, as well as a 0.4 mile walking track. Nearby fields, playground, and pavilion will ensure that your whole family has a fun day.
Fultondale
7. Bark Park (2408 Stouts Road, Fultondale)
Fultondale’s Bark Park dog park has separate fenced areas for large and small breeds. The park is partially shaded and there are benches for owners to sit and watch their dogs at play. Your kids will love riding bikes on the walking paths and playing in the nearby creek.
Irondale
8. Tails by the Rails (2420 Ruffner Court, Irondale)
Tails by the Rails is in Ellard Park in Irondale, AL just opened within the past year. The off-leash area is divided into sections for large and small dogs, and the park has play equipment customized just for fur babies. There are also walkways and shady areas to keep both you and your pet happy on a sunny day.
Moody
9. Moody Dog Park (663 Park Avenue, Moody)
The Moody Dog Park is an off-leash park with two enclosed spaces designated for small and large dogs. Your dog will enjoy trotting along the walking trail and bounding up and down the agility ramps.
Mountain Brook
10. Cahaba River Walk Dog Park (3529 Overton Road, Mountain Brook)
The Cahaba River Walk Dog Park has a large enclosed area for dogs to play off of their leashes. There are also paved trails throughout the park and an unpaved area to walk along the Cahaba River. Bring a picnic and a swimsuit or fishing pole for your kids, or just let them have fun hunting tadpoles. This spot on the Cahaba River has provided hours of entertainment for my kids and their friends.
11. Jemison Trail Dog Park (2973 Cahaba Road, Mountain Brook)
The Jemison Trail Dog Park is a small dog park with a dog water fountain, benches and plenty of shade. Parking is available on Heathermoor Road. The Mountain Brook Elementary field is nearby, so kids can play tag or soccer.
Pelham
12. Pelham Dog Park (31-33 Belle Vista Mhp, Pelham)
The Pelham Dog Park has a play area for dogs larger than 35 pounds, and a separate area for dogs weighing less than 35 pounds. Both puppy playgrounds feature play structures made just for dogs. This park is complete with a dog run, water station, and shady places for the rest of the family to hang out.
Trussville
13. Cahaba Dog Park (531 Cherokee Drive, Trussville)
At Trussville’s Cahaba Dog Park, you will find separate fenced in areas for large and small dogs to play. There is plenty of shade, so both you and your pet will stay comfortable on warmer days.
Vestavia Hills
14. Cahaba Heights Dog Park (2150 Hollis Crossings, Vestavia Hills)
The Cahaba Heights Dog Park is a simple, but newer dog park with two play areas- one for playful, energetic dogs, and one for dogs who just came to relax. Your kids will love playing just up the hill at the Cahaba Heights athletic fields, batting cages, and playground. The walkways around the lower baseball fields make a great place to ride bikes or scooters when it’s not too crowded.
15. Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex Dog Park (4851 Sicard Hollow Road, Vestavia Hills)
The SHAC Dog Park includes two separate play areas for dogs with differing sizes or temperaments, an obstacle course, and a dog washing station to wash off all the dirt before you and your pet return to your car. If you bring your children along, there is a children’s playground, splash pad, and trails within viewing distance of the dog park. There are also soccer fields, pickle ball fields, and a second playground nearby.
16. Wald Park Dog Park (1973 Merryvale Road, Vestavia Hills)
The Wald Park Dog Park is near the pickle ball and tennis courts and features a space for your dog to let loose and play! Nearby, the whole family can enjoy the walking trails, baseball fields, batting cages, and two playgrounds.
