Growing up in a small, southern community, Halloween usually consisted of the Fall Festival at church and maybe some trick-or-treating when we got a little older. Now that we live in the “big city,” we usually catch a parade, go trick-or-treating, and then head to a friend’s house for chili. We’ve loved starting new traditions as a family, and Birmingham sure has a lot to offer when it comes to Halloween festivities — for both adults and for families.
Even though I’ve lived in Birmingham over a decade, I’m always surprised and excited to see that this city offers so many unique events. Whether it’s Christmas movies at the Alabama Theatre or Pepper Place on Saturday mornings, I love discovering new things to do downtown. I love living just minutes away from all of the events these revitalized neighborhoods have to offer, and I can’t wait to participate in a few of these Halloween festivities.
This year, many of the downtown events take place over the weekend, so make sure to mark your calendars if you see something that catches your eye! There are great events taking place in other parts of the city as well!

My husband and I are looking forward to making the most of our daughter’s first real Halloween (last year she was five weeks old) by attending as many of these events as possible! She loves tutus, so if you see us around town, she’ll be the cutie in the Belle costume with the big, gold tutu.
