Birmingham

I have called this city home for the past 9 years since moving here to attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham. The moment I had my first visit I knew this is where I wanted to be. I saw how much potential this city had and was excited to be a part of that growth. Birmingham has some of the best food. From food trucks to dine-in restaurants, you can find a great meal on every corner. It is so exciting to see restaurants that are popular in other states make their way here. If I had to guess, I am sure my daughter would say her favorite thing about Birmingham is that there is always something for her to do. There are many beautiful parks for us to visit, always a free event we can have a blast at, and we love to visit the McWane Science Center.

I have met so many wonderful people and have been able to create an awesome life in this city! I am excited about what is to come for Birmingham as many great changes are being made. Even though I am a country girl at heart, Birmingham definitely feels like home sweet home.

Mom

I am the mother of a sweet angel baby and an amazing rainbow baby who is now 4 years old. My daughter Riley was born at Brookwood Hospital which was truly a blessing after my first experience. Riley brings so much joy to anyone who has the pleasure of meeting her. It amazes me daily how little person can have such a big impact. She challenges me to be a better person, to be more creative, and inspires me to be fearless!

Describing what it feels like to be a mom is sometimes hard to put into words. There are so many emotions attached to that word. Some days you love to hear it and other days after your child has said it for the 100th time, you are ready for a mom break! I must say that even though I get tired, everyday I am grateful and blessed to hold such a title.

Collective

I have always been somewhat of a writer. When I was in middle school, one of my best friends and I used to write poetry and remix current songs. (Please do not ask to see one of those songs! Ha!) Since then, writing has seemed to be a way for me to say the things I could not speak. After the loss of my first child, writing was the only thing I had strength to do. I was so excited to be accepted for this opportunity to share with the women in my community. I plan to share my experiences with co-parenting, postpartum depression, anxiety, and loss. Hopefully my experience can help others who are having a rough time. Along with those topics, I hope to use my love for food to inspire you to get out and explore the great places we have in Birmingham.
