We love partnering with Mason Music to share about their terrific opportunities for musical education! This is sponsored content.

Does your child constantly sing in the shower? Turn any hard surface into a makeshift drum? Need a creative outlet or opportunity to build confidence? If you said yes to any of these, then today’s conversation with Mason Music is for you! Mason Music is a local gem offering music programs and lessons all over the community. We recently sat down with owner Will Mason and chatted all about his beginnings in music, fall programs at Mason Music, and the many benefits music offers.

Meet Will

It comes as no surprise that Will’s love for music began at an early age and was influenced by his parents and grandmother, who gifted him a keyboard when he was six years old. He has been playing music for 34 years and teaching for the past 20 years! He loves working with kids and even has two musically gifted kids of his own, Alice and Liam. You may recognize his wife Mallory from another local gem, Daughter’s Baking. Talk about an impressively gifted couple!

About Mason Music

Mason Music’s programs and lessons provide an opportunity for kids of all ages to experience music education. Whether your child has little to no musical background or has some training under their belt, Mason Music has several ways for them to learn and grow. Below are just a few ways you can get your child involved!

  • Munchkin Music

Do you want your children to know the basics of music but have no idea where to start? Enter Munchkin Music. This preschool program is a great intro to foundational musical concepts for kids ages three to five. In this program, they learn all about rhythm, fast and slow, pitch, high and low, and dynamics. It introduces kids to the basics of music, and if you’re wanting your child to learn to make music, it prepares them really well for private lessons down the road.

  • Rock Band League

In Will’s words, Rock Band League is “the coolest thing we do by far.” Following the youth sports model, it creates structure for kids to make music together in an actual band. Today’s youth often have many opportunities to play sports with other kids but lack the opportunity to put their musical skills to practice in a group setting. Rock Band League fills in that gap by giving kids a place to work alongside their peers to make music and sharpen their skills through live performance.

Kids ages ten to eighteen with some prior musical training can register to get drafted into a band and are grouped together based on interest and level of experience. Bands then practice weekly at Mason Music (not your garage!) with instruments provided and a designated coach to help with song selection and ensure that practice stays on track. Rather than games or tournaments, the bands play shows at local venues like Avondale Brewing, Workplay, Saturn, and Zydeco to name a few. Playing real shows gives participants a big confidence boost, and being part of a band teaches them how to collaborate and work with others. Registration for Fall Rock Band League is now open, so head over to the website and sign up

  • Private Lessons

Private lessons are the bread and butter of Mason Music. The best way for kids to learn is in a one-on-one context that provides personal feedback and a customized plan for growth. Lessons are available for piano, guitar, drums, and voice. Best of all, you have multiple locations to choose from, including Mountain Brook, Cahaba Heights, Bluff Park, Greystone, and Woodlawn.

Practice at home is essential, so students will need an instrument to use at home, but don’t let that hold you back. Starter instruments are perfectly acceptable and cost-effective! Right now is peak booking time, so sign up asap to ensure you get the class time that works best for your family! Getting your child involved in music can not only improve their skills but also supports social development and self-expression. Perhaps the best benefit is developing a passion they can enjoy for many years to come!
