Act of Congress with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra
Act of Congress with Symphony this December! Alabama’s only full-time professional orchestra welcomes home one of its own. Act of Congress — the Birmingham-born string band that got its start at the University of Montevallo in 2006 — is returning to the ASO stage for a Birmingham holiday tradition. The pairing goes back to 2014, when the band first joined the orchestra under conductor Daniel Cho; since then they’ve built a following well beyond Alabama, from NPR features to a CBS Sunday Morning profile to State Department cultural ambassador tours overseas. This is a rare chance to hear a homegrown act share the stage with the state’s only professional symphony.
Guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass meet full orchestral arrangements by Grammy-nominated composer Don Hart for an evening of holiday favorites — O Holy Night, Carol of the Bells, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy — plus seasonal surprises for longtime fans and first-timers alike. This is the holiday concert you bring everyone to.
