Easter weekend is almost here! Many of our typical weekend activities are on hold for this special weekend, which is a nice break from the busy schedule we usually keep. When I was growing up, we enjoyed going to my church’s huge egg hunt the day before Easter, and then we spent the afternoon in our backyard running off the sugar rush we brought home. Now, there are many egg hunts throughout the month, but so few are over Easter weekend. While searching for a fun and new family activity to do over the holiday weekend, I found that there are a lot of great Easter weekend events in the Birmingham area all ages can enjoy. Whether you want a traditional Easter Egg Hunt, sports, food, music, or theater, we have an event for you!
In addition to this list, check with your local church to see what Easter weekend activities are planned. Some churches have children’s activities or special events on Good Friday, the Friday before Easter. Easter is usually the most attended church service of the year, and most churches love to see visitors or old friends who haven’t been able to attend in a while.
Easter Egg Hunts
Hueytown Easter Eggstavaganza
Over Easter weekend, the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Easter Eggstravaganza at Hueytown City Park. At this fun event, your kids can see the Easter Bunny and enjoy crafts, inflatables, face painting, egg hunting, and lunch from food trucks.

Mountain Brook Easter Egg Roll
Don’t miss Mountain Brook’s Annual Easter Egg Roll! Located at the grassy field across from the O’Neal Library, this tradition invites families to bring their baskets, hunt for and collect eggs, and meet the Easter Bunny.

Cookie Crusher 5K
The Cookie Crusher 5K is sponsored by Cookie Fix and benefits Magic Moments, a local nonprofit organization that grants wishes to Alabama children with chronic life-threatening or acute life-altering conditions. The race will be held at Heights Village and includes a 200 yard dash sponsored by The Lili Pad so that kids can participate too. All race participants receive a t-shirt, medal, and special treat at the finish line.

Rocky Ridge Battle of the Bands
The Rocky Ridge Entertainment District in Vestavia Hills is hosting the 6th Annual Rocky Ridge Battle of the Bands, sponsored by Mason Music. Local middle school and high school bands will perform and compete for a total of $2,000 in prize money. You can enjoy food and drinks from nearby restaurants and browse retail shops, all within walking distance.

Wing Wars
Wing Wars is being held at Cahaba Brewing Company to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Teams will compete for the best wings while patrons enjoy sampling wings and listening to live music. There will even be a chicken wing eating competition, so bring your appetite!

Movies on the Mountain
Vulcan Museum and Park is sponsoring Movies on the Mountain, an outdoor family friendly movie series. The first movie is Matilda. Candy and popcorn, local food vendors, and adult beverages will all be available to buy. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a fun family movie night.

The Pirates of Penzance

Vocabby’s World: Down by the Pond
Vocabby’s World partners with ArtPlay in a fun and free community vocabulary program for children who are 0-5 years old. Children will travel around the world as they learn new vocabulary words through song, movement and creativity.
