Are you in the market for high quality meat, cheeses, and prepared foods? Whether you’re buying food for a weeknight dinner or hoping to get the perfect holiday fixings, we’ve got you covered, and you can be sure these butcher shops in Birmingham will not disappoint!

1. The Son of a Butcher

Location: 2810 3rd Ave S #100 (inside Pepper Place)

Delightfully, the owners are actually sons of a butcher named Butch. Their storefront was birthed in 2020 during COVID, after declining sales at Evans Meats, which is another one of their family owned businesses. You can shop for quite a variety of meat, seafood, cheese, and specialty items.

2. Cajun Cleaver

Location: 2341 John Hawkins Pkwy Suite 101, Hoover

Cajun Cleaver is a unique butcher shop, bringing a Louisiana flair to its customers. You can pick up specialty meats, but they also provide holiday meals, casseroles, and meals to go.

3. Mark’s Mart

Location: 2501 Rocky Ridge Road, Vestavia

Mark’s Mart is a butcher shop and deli originally from Selma. The Vestavia storefront is its third location. Home of the “Chicken Swirl”, Mark’s Mart has been serving Alabama since 1978. You can buy high quality meats, wine, and specialty items, here.

4. Mr. P’s Deli

Location: 813 Shades Crest Rd, Hoover

Mr. P’s Deli has been a staple in the area since 1975. Not only will you find the finest cuts of meat, they have a vast menu of sandwiches to go, deli meats and cheeses, and gift boxes.

5. Smiley Brothers Specialty Foods

Location: 214 Huntley Pkwy, Pelham

Smiley Brothers is a newer butcher, but they already have so much to offer. Smiley Brothers prides itself on buying whole muscle cuts of meat, which means you get to decide the size of your steak! They also offer poultry from Joyce Farms. Their menu boasts of sandwiches, family meals, and catering. You can also purchase wine and charcuterie.

6. The New York Butcher Shoppe

Two Locations: 3158 Heights Village in Cahaba Heights and 6801 Cahaba Valley Road
Suite 112

Not only can you get a sandwich big enough to feed two people at this shop, but you can also buy meat, poultry, seafood, and wine. This is my family’s preferred butcher for our meat at holiday meals.
