Nothing brings the magic of the season to life like a holiday performance! From concerts to live theatre, we have several local events filled with festive music and storytelling to choose from! Here are 7 family-friendly holiday performances in Birmingham that are sure to get you in the Christmas Spirit: 

1. Birmingham Boys Choir Christmas Concert 

The 48th annual Christmas concert will take place on December 7th at Samford Wright Center at 3:00 P.M. Boys of all ages from across the city comprise this special choral group, which will sing several Christmas classics to celebrate the birth of Christ. Admission is free!

2. Christmas Over the Mountain at Hunter Street Baptist Church 

Join Hunter Street Baptist Church from December 12-14 for Christmas Over the Mountain, a live musical performance filled with holiday favorites and the telling of the Christmas story. You can also sign up for pictures with Santa! Tickets are $5, with all sales aiding foster families in the Over the Mountain community.

3. Holiday Magic with the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra 

Enjoy a family-friendly afternoon of holiday classics and festive music from The Nutcracker, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and more performed by musicians of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra. The concert is free and will take place on December 7th at 5:00 P.M. at Thompson High School Performing Arts Center. 

4. Holiday Pops! with Alabama Symphony Orchestra 

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will get you in the holiday spirit with their festive concert for kids and families! Hear holiday favorites played by a full orchestra and join in a fun-filled sing along featuring classics like Angels We Have Heard on High, Joy to the World, O Come, All Ye Faithful, The First Noel, Silent Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Deck the Hall, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The concert will take place on December 2nd at 7:00 P.M. at Alys Stephens Center, and tickets cost $25. 

5. Holiday Spectacular at Red Mountain Theatre 

From December 4-21, Red Mountain Theatre celebrates the magic of the holidays with their Holiday Spectacular. Enjoy classic and modern tunes performed on-stage by 75 talented performers. Tickets range from $34-$59, excluding fees. 

6. The Muppet Christmas Carol with Alabama Symphony Orchestra 

Watch Disney’s The Muppet Christmas Carol with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra performing the orchestra score live to picture! Kids will enjoy seeing Charles Dickens’ holiday tale with all their favorite Muppet characters. The concert takes place on December 7th at 2:30 P.M. at BJCC Concert Hall. Tickets range from $31.50-$71.50. 

7. Sounds of the Season 

Opera Birmingham’s Sounds of the Season will take place on December 14th at 2:30 P.M. at Samford University’s Jane Hollock Brock Recital Hall. The concert features Christmas classics and beloved holiday songs the whole family will enjoy. She made frequent trips to the Magic City as a child to visit relatives and envisioned living here one day. She is 8 years in and loves it!
