Did you know that trying new things with your partner can spark excitement, deepen your connection, and improve your relationship? For your next date night, instead of resorting to your usual restaurant and ordering the same thing you did last time, try something new! If you’re looking for amazing food and a great atmosphere, look no further than Cahaba Heights! This neighborhood has delicious, award winning options at all price points, and everything from fine dining to casual fare. So, here is a list of date ideas in Cahaba Heights that can help you and your partner reconnect and have fun.
Fine Dining
FoodBar
FoodBar is a farm-to-table restaurant with dishes that live up to its motto, “Not pretentious. Just delicious.” The rotating menu usually has several delicious regional fish options, but will also include beef and chicken options, served alongside fresh vegetables from local farms. Kick off your meal with their Beet and Fig or Citrus Salad appetizer. For your main course, try one of their fish selections. For dessert, it will be hard to choose between Chocolate Chess Pie or FoodBar Doughnuts.
Miss Astrid’s Tavern
New to the Cahaba Heights scene, Miss Astrid’s Tavern is soon to be a local favorite. They feature chef-driven Southern cuisine, and the elevated comfort food on the menu has included dishes like Southern Pork Roulade with collards, green apple, ham, candied bacon, sweet potato, and green apple gratin. Don’t leave without asking about their desserts, which are delicious pieces of art.
Satterfield’s Restaurant
When you walk into Satterfield’s, the simple, elegant decor prepares you for a special experience. This well known restaurant specializes in global cuisine with a Southern twist, and the owner and executive pastry chef, Becky Satterfield, has been featured by USA Today as one of 50 female chefs in the nation (one in each state) making huge impact on the restaurant industry. Start with their amazing Fried Brussel Sprouts appetizer and move on to comforting classics like Shrimp and Grits or Cornmeal Fried Alabama Catfish. Finish off your evening with one of their dessert cocktails.
Latin American Cuisine
El ZunZún
El ZunZún serves Latin American cuisine that is the perfect mix of traditional favorites and new twists in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. We usually start with their Hummingbird Queso and freshly made tortilla chips. Their Margaritas are known for being some of the best in the area and are famously strong. My husband loves their Crispy Fish Tacos, and their Street Corn is a great side to share.
Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern Cuisine
The Olive Branch
The Olive Branch serves flavorful Mediterranean cuisine. If you love authentic Mediterranean food, try their Kafta Kabob Plate or Falafel Plate. They also have a wide assortment of specialty gyros and sandwiches.
The Pita Stop Express
The Pita Stop Express serves delicious Middle Eastern dishes. You won’t want to miss their hummus appetizer. Whether you are getting their Vegetable Kabobs or Salmon Plate, the food is fresh, and the portions are huge.
Pizza
Troup’s Pizza
Another award winner in Cahaba Heights, Troup’s Pizza owner and chef Terrill Brazelton has been selected to be on Food Network’s Guy’s Grocery Games and won Birmingham’s Best Pizza for 6 years in a row. Troup’s Pizza not only serves tasty pizzas, but they also have amazing seasonal salads and feature a rotation of cheesecakes for dessert. Great food, wonderful staff, and a comfortable atmosphere make this a great place to go when you want something special, but not too fancy.
Barbecue
Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint
A new local favorite is Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint. Martin’s Bar-B-Que has wonderful barbeque and sides. Try their Smoked Wings or BBQ Nachos, and leave room for Martha Ann’s Fudge Pie or Nadine’s Pecan Pie.
Miss Myra’s Pit Bar-B-Q
For great barbecue, eat at the classic Miss Myra’s Pit Bar-B-Q. Food Network’s Andrew Zimmern featured Miss Myra’s Barbeque Chicken Sandwich with White Sauce on his show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.” Don’t leave before tasting their just-as-famous banana pudding.
American Cuisine
Ashley Mac’s Kitchen
Ashley Mac’s Kitchen is known for its girly food like chicken salad and a wide selection of delicious salads and sandwiches. On the weekends, The Andy Mac Burger will be loved by any guy (or girl!) Before you leave, stock up on frozen family meals and try their famous strawberry cake.
Marky’s Kitchen
If you remember and loved the restaurant Zoë’s Kitchen, you will love Marky’s. Both are owned by the same family, and Marky’s menu has all of the best things from Zoë’s Kitchen, plus Smash Burgers and fries.
Mudtown Eat and Drink
If Mudtown Eat and Drink feels like the kind of place where the bartender knows everyone’s name and the waiter knows their favorite meal, it’s because it is! This local hangout is one of the few places you can order Gumbo, Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad, and a Conecuh Dog that are all fabulous. If you are looking for a one of a kind experience, ask them about their Whiskey Tastings.
Brunch Date
Biscuit Love
If brunch is more your scene, Biscuit Love is well known for their Chronic Bacon and Bonuts, fried biscuit dough topped with lemon mascarpone and served over blueberry compote.
Mudtown Eat and Drink
On Saturday and Sunday, Mudtown Eat and Drink serves Mimosas with Chicken and Pancakes for a brunch that you and your partner will both love. If you are really hungry, order the Fat Man Breakfast Bowl and stay full all day long.
Dessert Date
Bendy’s Cookies and Cream
Bendy’s Cookies and Cream serves fresh and frozen homemade cookies and unique homemade ice cream flavors. Their ice cream sandwich marries the two for the best ice cream sandwich you will ever taste.
Cookie Fix
Featured as one of Food Network’s Best Bakeries in the Country, Cookie Fix will not let you down if you are looking for a freshly baked cookie that will blow you away. They also sell frozen cookie dough to enjoy at home. My favorites are Salted Dark Chocolate Caramel and Healthy Peanut Butter.
Doodle’s Handmade Sorbets and Ices
Doodle’s Homemade Sorbets and Ices offers a huge menu of Italian ices and sorbets made with natural ingredients that are all a delicious treat.
Coffee Date
Cala Coffee
For a quick coffee date, Cala Coffee has you covered. They are a great local place to find freshly roasted coffee and tea. If you find yourself hungry, try one of their locally sourced breakfast tacos or pastries.
