The Ultimate Lake Martin Getaway

Something for everyone

If you are looking for a family getaway that includes great views, water, hiking, and fun activities for everyone, look no further than a quick 1.5-hour drive to Lake Martin! We spent the week of Spring Break in Alexander City and could not have had a better time.

Where to stay

There are so many amazing places for every budget and occasion. Tiny house living, camping, VRBO, and Airbnb. Some houses include a boat, or you can rent one. Our kids and dog will still get in the water even when it is freezing, so don’t forget life jackets and floats no matter the season. Our family has also enjoyed camping at the lake in the past. There is nothing like connecting with each in the great outdoors!

What to do

Some of the many activities we did were: hiking the fire tower trailcanoeing, kayaking, bonfires, s’mores, and so much more. Wind Creek State Park has a fun zipline for kids age seven and up. The Wind Creek Campground also has the best trick-or-treating at Halloween!

If you enjoy golfing, there are endless options to tee up around the lake. The kids loved visiting Russell Marine one rainy afternoon, and then we enjoyed some delicious Mexican food. Speaking of food, there are so many amazing dining options at Lake Martin.

Some of our favorite restaurants are Kowaliga, Chuck’s, The Landing, and Lake Martin Pizza Co. Don’t forget dessert at Rita’s!

Auburn is only a 45-minute drive away, so we enjoyed an Auburn University baseball game during our lake trip. The kids loved the snacks as much as the exciting game!

We also loved lazy evenings at the lake house playing Monopoly and looking at the stars. It was the perfect getaway without having to drive far from home.
