Where to Find Maternity Clothes in Birmingham

Maternity Clothes BirminghamIf you’re like me, getting dressed in the morning can be a stressor. I can’t tell you the number of times I have put on five different things only to go back to the first thing I put on! This was especially true early in my first pregnancy. Trust me when I say that pregnancy hormones + frustration with your closet is NOT a fun combo. Then my sweet grandmother generously gave me some money to go shopping, and it changed the game. Adding cute, comfortable maternity clothes to my wardrobe helped me feel good in my skin and took the guesswork out of getting dressed. I actually had options I enjoyed wearing! Finding clothes that fit well and make you feel good can go a long way during pregnancy, and our city has several great places to find them. Check out our list below for the best places to shop for maternity clothes in Birmingham!

Clover & Bee

If you’ve been in Birmingham for a while, you may remember a maternity boutique in Homewood called “The Swanky Stork.” (Funny sidebar, my sister worked there in grad school and used to wear a baby bump to model the clothes!) They’ve since moved to Cahaba Heights and evolved into “Clover & Bee,” a fashionable women’s boutique with a wide variety of everyday and dressier options. While they no longer feature a true maternity section, they do carry several bump-friendly pieces, especially tops and dresses. When I was pregnant with my first, Clover & Bee was my first stop for some new pieces to fit my growing bump. Some stretchy sweater dresses and looser blouses for work became staples throughout my pregnancy and made me feel fashionable to boot!

Kohl’s

Kohl’s is a smaller department retail chain with locations at The Grove in Hoover, Inverness Corners, and in Trussville. You never know what you will find, but the store typically has a decent selection of maternity wear. The Kohl’s line Sonoma Goods for Life currently has several cute maternity items available in the store and online. I’d for sure be hitting up the store at The Grove to pick up this pink midi dress if I were pregnant right now! According to the Kohl’s website, they will begin carrying the Motherhood brand of maternity wear next month.

Target

It’s no secret that Target carries fun, fashionable women’s clothing at an affordable price, but did you know they have an awesome maternity section too?! From leggings to jeans to dresses, they’ve got all your needs covered. You know how Target will partner with a designer to create a more affordable line for their stores? They’ve done that in the maternity section with designer Ingrid + Isabel. You can find designer pieces that are on-trend and high quality for a fraction of the cost. I practically lived in these Isabel Maternity leggings from Target throughout two pregnancies, and I honestly miss wearing them because they are that great! Now you have a legit excuse for your next Target shopping spree. Enjoy!

Old Navy

If you’re like me and haven’t shopped at Old Navy in a while, now is the time to revisit. The retailer carries lots of everyday staples and some more trendy items, too. Best of all, they have maternity clothes! While you could shop online, there are physical stores located in the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, at the Grand River Outlets in Leeds, and in Alabaster, which can be helpful when you’re pregnant and unsure how things will fit. I’m especially impressed by the activewear and pajama options, and you really can’t beat their prices!

Walmart

Walmart may not be the first place you’d think to look for maternity clothes, but as the saying goes, “don’t knock it ’til you try it.” The current in-store selection mostly includes undergarments, jeans, tees, and leggings. You’re likely to find some good staples that are very kind on your wallet!

Consignment Sales

Every fall and spring, the Birmingham area has an incredible lineup of consignment sales. While these are mainly focused on selling kids’ clothing and items, most of them have some maternity items too. It’s a good idea to go ahead and get familiar with them because you will definitely want to hit them up down the road for your little one! Be sure to check out the guide page on our website each fall and spring for all the details!

Other In-Person and Online Options

  • Pink Blush – Boutique-style clothing with good pricing and the convenience of online shopping, plus free shipping! This is my go-to for showers or sprinkles and other special occasions.
  • H&M – Always a good stock of staples such as t-shirts and jeans. How wonderful that we have locations here in town now at the Galleria and Leeds, and they’ve provided a section in the store just for maternity clothing! I’m a fan!
  • Asos – Similar to H&M in that I have found some good basics there from swimsuits to jeans. Great quality, too!
  • Nordstrom – I tend to think of Nordstrom as a good idea for more high-end basics — for example, if you’re wanting a certain brand of denim that reminds you more of your favorite non-maternity pair! Also, they have a large selection of everything, which is always helpful!
  • Topshop – Trendy and chic, but also comfy and casual. Not a huge selection while also having a little bit of everything. But no matter what, you will feel cool and not so . . . pregnant.
  • Gap – Fall into the . . . may we never forget that ad campaign or the fact that they have consistently produced quality denim and basics. They also run great sales!

Happy shopping to all our pregnant mamas!
