It’s almost Mother’s Day, and chances are there is a mother in your life you’re giving a gift to. We’ve compiled this list of great Mother’s Day gifts in Birmingham to help you out, but don’t feel pressured to go over the top. At the end of the day, moms just want to be thought of, recognized, and made to feel special. (It doesn’t hurt if she also gets a long, undisturbed nap, either!)

Here are some ideas for gifts for all kinds of moms, as well as the local businesses that sell them:

  1. Birmingham has some wonderful spas, and all moms could use some more rest and relaxation, so a gift card for a massage, facial, etc is often just what the doctor ordered! P.S.- There are plenty of moms that would prefer having an appointment made for them, as opposed to a gift card, so go the extra mile and get it scheduled for her if she’s already suffering from decision fatigue.
  2. If she’s into Mahjong like all the other moms, why not grab her a nice set of tiles? You can grab nice ones at these local spots. (If she doesn’t know how to play but wants to, then check out these spots for classes so she can get in on the fun!)
  3. Encourage her to treat herself by grabbing some fancy chocolates from Elizabeth Moore Chocolates, Chocolatá Chocolates, or Michelle’s Chocolate Lab, or even buying her a subscription. (She probably wouldn’t buy one for herself, but she’ll love it!)
  4. Moms need alllll the caffeine. If she prefers to make her own coffee, grab a bag from a local roaster with a nice mug. If she’s always on the go, you can get a gift card to a local shop so she can treat herself whenever the mood strikes.
  5. For a beautiful token of your appreciation, grab some of her favorite flowers from a local florist. (Make sure they’re low maintenance because she probably doesn’t want to have to be responsible for keeping something else alive.)
  6. It seems like everyone is getting a color analysis nowadays, so if she’s in the market to make clothes shopping for herself much easier, she would probably be grateful for this service.
  7. Get her dinner. Take her out sans children, get a ready-made meal for the family, or get her her favorite meal and feed the kids chicken nuggets. Just make sure she doesn’t have to do the planning, cooking, or cleaning and the kids will eat it without complaining.
  8. Check out the all the local entertainment venue’s schedules for the rest of the year and find an event she’ll love. Does she like the ballet? Alabama Ballet performs at the BJCC. Smaller concerts? Workplay and Avondale Brewing host a wide variety of performers. The Symphony? The ASO is often at the Alys Stephens Center. Get tickets, call the sitter, and make reservations for dinner beforehand. Give her a great evening that is already planned out.

There are so many other local shops around town that we love for mom gifts! Along with the ones mentioned above, we also recommend Wrapsody, the Cottage Basket, Monograms Plus, The Pink Tulip, Clover and Bee, The Pants Store, and more!
