Every fall, my family loves decorating pumpkins. As my children have grown in their abilities and interests, our pumpkin decorating has evolved and taken on many forms: decorating with permanent markers, painting, carving, and one year we even had a “dress-up” situation. There are many ways to decorate a pumpkin for the fall, but painting pumpkins remains a favorite in our family. We’ve found a few fun opportunities for pumpkin painting in the Birmingham area where your family can enjoy exploring their creativity this fall and maybe start a new family tradition!
Andy’s Garden Center
At Andy’s Garden Center in Vestavia, when you purchase any pumpkin, your child can enjoy free pumpkin painting while you are there! It’s a fun, creative activity that lets little artists decorate their pumpkin and make special fall memories.
Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest
Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest has two fun opportunities for kids to get creative with their pumpkins.
On September 27 from 2:00- 4:00 pm, the Vestavia Hills Junior Library Board, People Affecting Library Success (PALS), is hosting a free Pumpkin Patch. During this event, kids can pick out and decorate a pumpkin. They can also enjoy fresh popcorn, play the book walk, and play in the bounce house! The Alsies Ice Cream Truck will also be there, and a portion of ice cream sales will go directly to PALS.
On October 27 from 3:30- 4:30 pm, the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest hosts After School Adventures, where kindergarten through second graders can paint a mini pumpkin and take home their creation.
Alabaster Fall Fest
On October 31, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, visit Alabaster’s 18th Annual Fall Fest. Admission is free, and your little one can paint a pumpkin for $2 per pumpkin. This fun community event also features hayrides, live music, trick or treat trail, and other kids’ activities.
Your Own Home
If you don’t mind the prep work and mess, decorating pumpkins at home is just as much fun. Stop by the craft store to pick up a variety of paint colors, or purchase a pumpkin painting kit to kick off your own family pumpkin painting party.
