Summer Shows

1. The Little Mermaid 

Red Mountain Theatre brings to life the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid. Ariel falls in love with Prince Eric and asks the sea witch Ursula to help her trade her mermaid tail for a life on land. Come see her friends Flounder the Fish, Scuttle the Seagull, and Sebastian the Crab help her win Prince Eric’s heart before the sun sets on the third day.

2. Mrs. Doubtfire: The New Musical Comedy

The BJCC presents Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical Comedy, a hilarious story about a man who loses custody of his children in a divorce and then transforms himself into Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire to stay involved in their lives. 

Recommended for ages 10-12 and up due to mild language and mature humor.
Dates: June 16- June 21

3. The Jungle Book

Birmingham Children’s Theatre is taking their production of The Jungle Book on a free summer library tour! Come join Mowgli and his animal friends on their jungle adventure. 

Recommended for all ages.

Summer Movies

1. Movies on the Mountain 

Movies on the Mountain at Vulcan Park and Museum is back again, and they are showing Space Jam. Your kids will love this classic that stars basketball legend Michael Jordan and the Looney Toons characters. Don’t miss the free popcorn and cookies or “V,” Vulcan Park and Museum’s mascot. This viewing is outdoors, but late enough in the day that the temperature should be cooler.

Join Woody and Buzz in Toy Story 5 as they compete with Tech for Bonnie’s love and attention.

3. Minions and Monsters

Minions and Monsters is the 7th movie featuring your kid’s favorite silly yellow guys. Watch as the Minions become Hollywood movies stars, accidentally unleash monsters onto the world, and then must team up to save the planet.

The live-action version of the Disney animated film features Moana, a young girl who is called by the ocean to leave her home island. With the help of demigod Maui, she must return the stolen heart of Te Fiti to save her people.

PAW Patrol pups and Ryder return to the big screen for PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie. These canine heroes find themselves on an island filled with dinosaurs and meet a new pup friend, Rex. Mayor Humdinger begins exploiting the island’s natural resources, and the PAW Patrol must stop him before everything on the island becomes extinct.

Maurine was born and raised in Montgomery, but now calls the Cahaba Heights region of Vestavia Hills home. She met her husband, Jacob, while attending medical school at the University of South Alabama. She then completed an Ob Gyn residency in Gainesville, FL before returning to Birmingham.
