If there’s one food that kids and parents can both agree on, it’s pizza! What’s not to love about a food made of bread, cheese, and your favorite toppings?! With all the family-friendly pizza joints in Birmingham, the biggest argument may just be over where to go! Check out one of these Birmingham favorites on your next family pizza night.
1. Capella Pizzeria
With locations in Inverness, Trussville, and Uptown, Capella serves up authentic wood-fired pizzas just like you’d find in Naples, Italy. The casual yet vibrant atmosphere and cozy vibes make for the perfect family outing.
2. Dave’s
This Homewood favorite has been slinging pizzas for over 30 years! The “open-air” restaurant offers seating on a covered patio and live music on certain nights. Enjoy a classic pepperoni or one of their creative specialty pies like “Kyle’s Thai Pie” or the “Sweet Tang” bbq pizza.
3. Davenport’s Pizza Palace
Established in Mountain Brook in 1962, Davenport’s Pizza Palace has been beloved by Birmingham families for generations. This pizza joint is most known for its red checkered tablecloths, arcade games, and delicious thin-crust pizza cut into squares. They now have a location in Vestavia Hills too!
4. Donato’s
If you’re looking for a no-frills dine-in spot with yummy pizza, you can’t go wrong with Donato’s. With locations in Vestavia Hills and Trussville, Donato’s serves up thin-crust pizza with classic toppings.
5. Grimaldi’s
This Hoover pizza joint offers coal brick-oven pizza inspired by the ones found in Brooklyn, New York. The menu includes a variety of classic and specialty pizzas, along with gluten-free and cauliflower crust pizzas. Patio seating and creative cocktails add a little something extra to the dining experience!
6. Pizzeria GM
If you’re a fan of Homewood’s well-known Gianmarco’s, you’ll want to give Pizzeria GM a try. This West Homewood restaurant from the same owner serves specialty and traditional Italian pizzas inspired by the culture of both Naples, Italy and the Bronx. The space exudes a hip, energetic vibe but is definitely kid-friendly.
7. Slice Pizza & Brew
You know the pizza is good when the restaurant has four locations! Slice’s menu offers mostly unique flavors along with a few classics and a great beer selection. The atmosphere is self-described as “funky and vibrant” and makes for a fun dining experience. Find them in Lakeview, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, and Crestline.
8. Tortuga’s
Tortuga’s stands out as one of the only local places you’ll find Chicago-style “stuffed” pizza. Think deep-dish crust filled with cheese and toppings then layered with tomato sauce on top. If you prefer, thin crust pizza is also available. Check them out in Hoover and Southside across from Regions Field.
9. Troup’s Pizza
A Cahaba Height’s favorite, Troup’s may serve some of the most creative pizzas around. Not only will you find unique flavor combinations, but you can also order any pizza as a calzone! Gluten-free eaters will be happy to hear they even serve pizza that is celiac friendly. Add this one to the list of spots with great patio seating!
10. Uncle G’s
Uncle G’s Detroit style (sauce on the side!) and New York style pizzas have earned this local spot a lot of fans. Between their restaurant in Riverchase, trailer at Hop City, and the food truck, you’ve got several ways to try it. Pinball machines and arcade games are a highlight of the Riverchase location!
11. Vecchia
Tucked in The Preserve in Hoover, eating at Vecchia feels like you’ve been transported to the streets of Italy. The restaurant and market serves Neapolitan-style brick oven pizza, along with many other Italian dishes. The authentic flavors and warm hospitality stand out. If the weather is nice, I definitely recommend dining al fresco on the patio!
