Wedding Planning and Motherhood

In my next few posts, I will be sharing my experiences and local resources as I navigate wedding planning and motherhood.

At the beginning of August, my fiancé and I became engaged. We had been discussing getting married, and, actually, planned out a lot of our wedding before the official engagement. As we were tossing around dates he said, “that one works.” The one that worked was very early in 2025. That left us with very few months to go and a very busy schedule.

Let me also mention that there are five kids between us.

I am gaining three beautiful teenage bonus daughters. So, not only are we planning a wedding, but we are navigating parenthood. Oh, and did I mention I am also working on getting things set up on my webpage that I am building for autism resources? Not to mention the fact that there are several school meetings, doctors’ appointments and a bit more that I am sure is escaping me as I write this.

While it does seem and feel like we are treading water, we are actually doing incredibly well. We have a strong relationship built on communication and support. We discuss all the things with each other, and we also make a point to focus on our family on the weekends. During the week I make sure I have set aside at least one hour of self-care time.

When I feel myself getting overwhelmed, I say “enough!” and put a pin in whatever I am doing so I can take some time away from the stress. I cannot emphasize this enough, but delegation is so important! I am typically not one to ask for help, yet I have reached out to those I trust and asked for help with different things

I have also talked to my kids quite a bit about this huge transition.

We’ve discussed that I am getting married and that our family is getting bigger. My kids and his girls have gotten along beautifully so far, and I have an incredible relationship with his girls. Everyone has been calm and patient with each other, so wedding planning has been enjoyable.

None of this is easy, and I am okay with that. I’ve learned to make a list and prioritize. My fiancé has been incredible in helping me, being involved, and taking on things to lessen my load. I am so excited to share more with you about our wedding!

As always, you are doing an incredible job and have got this!
